Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing(say that job title fast 10 times!), delivered the opening keynote for this year’s Macworld Conference & Expo about an hour ago. Schiller was going to talk about 3 new things today…

Apple
The first new thing was iLife 09 and he talked about it for 50 minutes or so. As a pro user that is 50 minutes Ill never get back…

The new stuff in iPhoto is face recognition, geo tagging/manuel place inut, themed slideshows, facebook/flickr integration, a couple more adjustments in the editing and a new automated feature form maps if you order books with iPhoto.

iMovie 09 had a huge upgrade compared to the 2008 version. When the 2008 version arrived Apple had to ofer the old version of iMovie since the 2008 version was stripped off features. The new stuff is advance drag/dropping (read lapping one video over another, yay!) of video to the timeline, more control on the edit, themes are back together with a animated maps feature, video stabilization, title and transition effects and a new way to show your library.

I have never used garageband and I don’t think I will with the 09 version either. The new features are build in lessons, a way to buy music lessons from famous musicians, guitar feature and a update to magic garageband.

It looks like iWeb stays more or less the same as the previous version with the addition of facebook integration and the ability to add widget.

Apple
The second thing Phil talked about was iWork, another product I don’t care that much about..

To me the remote control of keynote through iPhone is the most interesting new feature in Keynote. In addition to that they added a new feature they call magic move, a theme chooser, more themes, chart animation, and the ability to export to PDF and PowerPoint.

Numbers got more advance options, new ways to organize the charts, updated Excel export and enhancements to the way you input and view formulas.

What I like about the Pages upgrade is the new full screen view, what it does is that it hides everything but the document you are working on. Pages got a new theme chooser just like Keynote, MathType 6 and EndNote X2 integration, dynamic outline of ducuments/project and more ways to share the document in Word format.

Apple
New 17″ version of the MacBook Pro. The new version has a few pros and one huge con as I see it.

Pros

Beautiful design

Unibody

green

updated gfx

option to get antiglare display

8GB memory as max

Mini Display Port

cons

not able to change the battery

more to do if you upgrade the memory

add at least a mini display port – DVI adapter

where is the quad core?

One more thing…
Update to iTunes. Every song will become available in iTunes Plus format, this means that the music will be DRM free (finally) and coded in better quality. This comes at a price tho, at least for the US citizens, they have to pay from 69 cents to $1.29 for each track. After a fast search in the Norwegian iTunes store it looks like all the tunes will be available at the previous price, 8kr. You can now buy songs over both Wifi and 3G with your iPhone(nothing was said if the data usage on 3G was included).
